Sipping Your Way Through December: Wine 8
/Here’s the eighth installment of The Wine Chef’s December "Advent Calendar" wine series.
Cleto Chiarli Rosé de Noir Brut (SRP $18)
This Rosé de Noir Brut, by Lambrusco producer Cleto Chiarli, is a vino spumante (sparkling wine) that joyfully nods to tradition.
Back in the day, around Modena, Italy, workers used to cool off with a light, pink, fizzy wine made from the runoff juice of fresh-picked grapes piled up in bins. The Chiarli family has taken that old-school tradition and given it a modern twist, creating this delicious bubbly rosé.
Made mostly from Lambrusco Grasparossa grapes with 15% Pinot Nero, this rosé gets its gorgeous pink hue from brief skin contact and tastes like it was made in a room full of strawberries and roses. It’s the kind of wine that makes any occasion more memorable. In fact, right before my daughter walked down the aisle to get married, the wedding party gathered for a Champagne toast. After a sip or two of Champagne, I decided to pop open this rosé—and let me tell you, it was just as delicious as its famous French cousin. Its crisp, fruity, and floral notes were a terrific way to kick off the wedding celebration.
Add a little sparkle to your holidays with this rosé from Italy. Cheers!
